KNIFE MAKING COURSE

BE CREATIVE, HAVING FUN, NICE FOOD and GOOD COMPANY

  • A DAY FULL OF FUTURE MEMORIES!

We welcome you to our forge with coffee/tea and a slice of Twente raisin bread. After a brief explanation, we will design your ideal knife together. This can be a classic shape or a very unique design. During the Knife Making Course, we do not forge the steel anymore, as this has already been done by the steel producer. We start with a suitable strip of the desired steel.

Once the knife design is transferred onto the steel, the real work begins as we saw and grind the contours into shape. Then we grind it to the exact desired thickness using a flat grinder. Next, we drill the holes for the handle assembly. Optionally, you can use pins with a symbol in them. In principle, everyone performs these actions themselves. No prior knowledge is necessary; we are here to assist you with advice and support. The goal is that everyone leaves with their perfect knife.

Using modern belt grinders, we shape the blade, after which the desired finish is applied to the blade by hand. Before we heat the knife to about 1050 degrees Celsius (glowingly hot, so to speak!), we protect it with a heat-resistant protective lacquer. After quenching in hardening oil, we temper the steel at approximately 180-200 degrees to make it tougher.

We will spend the rest of the day assembling and shaping the handle. By sanding and polishing the handle, the true beauty of the wood or composite emerges. Another moment of awe!

At the end, the knife will be sharpened in a dedicated sharpening angle (your choice) on a Tormek T8 wet grinding machine with diamond stones. The result is sharp enough for shaving!

Thanks to expert guidance, the use of high-quality materials, and the best machines, we guarantee a first-class end result that not only looks stunning but also possesses excellent material properties. A knife for a lifetime!

The cost of a KNIFE MAKING COURSE is €495, an ultimate experience!
